Gentle Paw Notes

Completing the Animal Reiki Level 2 manual is both an achievement and a beginning. At Level 1, you established your foundation in self-Reiki, in-person practice, animal communication, choice, and compassionate presence. At Level 2, your practice expanded through the three Reiki symbols, distance healing, support across time and change, and a deeper understanding of Reiki’s…

Animal Reiki is centred on the animal, but communication with the caregiver is an essential part of the practice. The caregiver knows the animal’s routines, personality, health history, preferences, and recent changes. Their observations can help you prepare an appropriate session, while your calm and respectful communication can help them understand what Animal Reiki offers.…

Animals often become especially receptive to quiet, gentle companionship as they grow older or experience serious illness. Their bodies may move more slowly, their routines may change, and their need for rest may increase. At the same time, their emotional and spiritual presence can remain strong. Reiki offers a way to accompany an animal through…

Distance Reiki can reach animals whose circumstances make ordinary in-person practice difficult, stressful, or impossible. The animal may be fearful of people, living in a shelter, moving between foster homes, sharing space with many other animals, living freely in the wild, or missing from home. Distance Animal Reiki does not depend upon one required technique. A practitioner may connect through an animal’s photograph, name, written information, a physical surrogate, visualization, or simple awareness. These methods help focus the mind and clarify the intended recipient, while Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen establishes the Reiki connection beyond physical proximity. The method is…

Distance Animal Reiki allows you to offer Reiki without entering the animal’s physical space. That freedom does not remove the need for consent. When practitioner and animal are in different locations, you may not be able to observe body language, movement, or changes in proximity. You must therefore establish a clear ethical foundation before opening…

Distance Animal Reiki allows Reiki to be offered when the practitioner and animal do not share the same physical space. The animal may be in another room, another home, another city, or another country. They may be resting at a veterinary hospital, staying at a boarding facility, living with a family member, travelling with their…

The Level 2 symbols can deepen Animal Reiki without changing its essential foundation. The animal remains a participant. Reiki is offered rather than imposed. Touch remains optional. The practitioner remains a conduit. The symbols bring focus, emotional harmony, and connection into the practice, but they do not replace your attention to the animal before you.…
